A 74-gun ship of the line launched in 1820 at the Philadelphia Navy Yard, this was the first US Navy warship named the USS North Carolina. She was assigned to the Mediterranean Squadron as the flagship for Commodore John Rodgers 1825 to 1827. From 1837 to 1839 she served in the Pacific Squadron. After returning to New York The North Carolina served as a receiving ship until placed in ordinary in 1866, and was sold in 1867.
