NOTES: The act of 1804 was authority for permanent detail of Surgeon and Surgeon's Mate at Washington Navy Yard.
Dept. Letter to Ewell 4-21-1807 gave him authority to purchase bedding for hospital. this hospital evidenty was not in Navy Yard as Commandant not authorized to supply bedding as of 1802.
Letter of Ewell mentions poor condition of hospital. This dated 4-11-1812. From other letters this hospital was located outside Navy Yard and evidently an old farm house with but few conveniences.
The Surgeon detailed at Navy Yard had charge of this hospital and also additional duty at Marine Barracks and Headquarters at 8th. and E St. S.E., established about 1801,
NAME: Cutbush, Edward

NOTES: The orders of Cutbush read "To hospital established City of Washington".
Letter of Cutbush to Naval Commissioners 5-2-1815 mentions a building outside of Navy Yard which had been used as a hospital for some time; rent $200.00 per year.
Letter of Cutbush 1819 mentions old location given up and new site and building obtained. He was not consulted, and considered the site poor due to being in a marshy section. No other information found. Location not determined. A hospital site was purchased in 1814.
