DATE REPORTED: 4-13-45
DATE DETACHED: 9-29-45
NOTES: The date 4-13-1843 is for additional duty Navy Yard. These orders stated he was ordered to Navy Yard as hospital at Yard being discontinued. Dept. letter of 4-14-43 states, "Having determined to continue this hospital connected with Yard, the Asst. now there is to be under the orders of the Surgeon for both hospitals indiscriminately."
The Naval Register 1844-1848 contain the following notes, under Navy Yard Washington, "The Surgeon is also required to attend teh hospital when necessary." "The Surgeon of the Yard is to be required to attend the Marines."
It appears some sort of hospital was in operation at both the Navy Yard and Marine Barracks adn the Senior Surgeon in charge of both establishments. 4-13-1844 Washington detached from Yard and continued at Marine Barracks till 9-29-1845 and Senior Surgeon must have been in charge of both hospitals.
Surgeon Palmer, James C. was at Yard from 3-6-1843 till 10-31-1844, evidently as assistant.
